Cavity Prevention Tips For Kids – Dr Bhandal

By admin May 19, 2017

Most of us know that regular oral hygiene care can help to prevent cavities, and hopefully that’s a bit of knowledge we regularly pass onto our kids. But, there are a few extra things kids can keep in mind when it comes to cavity prevention, and making sure they have healthy mouths each and every day. Let’s take a closer look at some cavity prevention tips for kids, and how they can use them everyday to fight back against decay!

  • Make sure your children know the importance of dental care, and inform them about cavities. Starting a habit early of brushing twice a day can get them into a routine that can eventually just become second nature.
  • Bacteria is one of the main threats against oral health, and it can come from other people! It’s important to make sure your children know that swapping food and drinks with other kids isn’t okay.
  • Sugary drinks and snacks can be a major factor in tooth decay. While most kids love their sweet treats, try to limit them as much as possible, or choose something with natural sugars, like a piece of fruit instead.
  • Adding more water to your child’s diet can be a big help. And, it doesn’t mean they have to guzzle glass after glass. Water-rich foods like juicy fruits and veggies can absolutely count toward their water intake! This will help their mouths to be ‘flushed’ throughout the day, which can help to release any food particles and rinse away bacteria.

While these are just a few helpful tips, the most important thing you can do to encourage positive oral hygiene and prevent cavities in your kids is use common sense. By actually teaching your children the importance of oral health, they’ll be more likely to make positive, healthy choices on their own.
